Hiro was known for the originality of his photographs, Hiro’s photographic career began at Harper’s Bazaar New York as a fashion, still-life and portrait photographer. Shortly after arriving in America from Japan in 1954, Hiro landed an apprenticeship in Richard Avedon’s studio, within a few years he rose to extraordinary fashion photography heights.
In 1969, Hiro was named Photographer of the Year by the American Society of Magazine Photographers. A distinguished honor, Hiro was again recognized by American Photographer (a trade magazine) with an entire issue being devoted to him in 1992.
In 2020 Hiro was inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum.

She has appeared in six films ranked in the British Film Institute's BFI Top 100 British films of the 20th century, and in 1997, she received the BAFTA Fellowship for lifetime achievement
Richard Avedon (May 15, 1923 – October 1, 2004) was an American fashion and portrait photographer. He worked for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Elle specializing in capturing movement in still pictures of fashion, theater and dance.[1] An obituary published in The New York Times said that "his fashion and portrait photographs helped define America's image of style, beauty and culture for the last half-century"
